From the Desk of Pastor Kim
Greetings Church family and friends,
Praise God- Spring has finally arrived! Each day brings us new life, new visions and new hope. We breathe in the fresh air and feel ourselves shaking off the winter blues as we plan and prepare for some wonderful events at our beloved Branchport United Methodist Church.
If you haven’t joined us for service recently we have so much to share! The new pew cushions have arrived! After conversation and generous support from angels of the church the cushions were ordered in March and we are excited to retire the old faithful blue ones and replace them with thicker, red ones. We will be dedicating them in the next couple weeks.
We now turn our attention to the much-needed new roof. The trustees met a few weeks ago and decided that we can not continue to hold off this costly project. Before more walls are damaged, it is time for it to be done. Quotes were gathered for the work and the supplies and it was agreed to move forward with the work. This project will be done sometime in the near future, now that the weather has finally turned for the better.
Both the pew cushions and the roof are costly investments but as the body of Christ we must faithfully move forward in our work and trust that God is always with us. I am so grateful to be a part of a congregation that has so much love and respect for this church. It is a great thing to be able to come together as a family and to outpour that sense of community into our neighborhood. I urge you to continue your support of Branchport UMC. Your prayers and financial support carry us forward into the future. We are the hands and feet of Jesus Christ and through us we call out to others to welcome them into our family.
“Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it. For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body” 1 Corinthians 12:12
In March we teamed up with Milo Center UMC and served “Grandma’s Kitchen” at Penn Yan Academy. A big Thank you to Abby Heselton for helping organize this amazing program! We can’t wait to help again next year. Many of our members continue their faithful work volunteering their time at the Once Again Shoppe and the Living Well.
Easter brought us a wonderful service and a celebration of Baptism of Paul and Mia Wright. A Stations of the Cross display was set up in the sanctuary from Good Friday evening and a couple following weeks. If you were unable to see it, plan on it for next year. It is a wonderful way to reflect on the journey Jesus took to the Cross and it enriched the celebration of His resurrection. This past Sunday, May 6th, we helped Rushville UMC celebrate their 150th Anniversary. It was wonderful to be able to join with them, Milo Center UMC, Middlesex UMC and many from Rushville Congregational Church. Our District Superintendent Jeff McDowell shared a great message and reminds us that we are the Church, in service together.
Planning has begun for the Memorial Day Chicken BBQ taking place Saturday May 26th. If you are able to help in any way, please let us know! We would love to have you. A sign-up sheet is in the fellowship area of the church or you can call Jan Thorn at 315-595-2526. We also are busy preparing for the 6th Annual Red, White and Blue 5K on July 4th. This event takes a lot of work and many hands to pull off, but what a great way to start off the holiday! Once again, we would love your help.
We look forward to our snow birds returning to worship with us. So, if you have been away for the winter, struggling with illness or just staying safely within your homes, please know that we have missed you. You have been lifted up in prayer and we hope that the warmer weather will bring you back our way Sunday mornings.
“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” –1 Corinthians 10:31
