January 2018

Happy New Year Friends of Branchport United Methodist Church,

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.~ Isaiah 9:6

How is it that even with four weeks of Advent to rightly prepare our hearts and embrace Christmas, it is all over too soon. The Christmas Pageant brought many together as we enjoyed the Children’s program and special singers as they shared the story of the birth of Jesus. It was a great reminder that we have many families that support the Ministry of our church. It was a wonderful blessing to have so many join us for the Christmas Eve Service as well. The evening was certainly spirit filled with beautiful singing of familiar hymns, special songs sung by Dave Mortenson and the sounds of the organ and piano played by Phyllis Bailey and joined by Valerie Lerch (from Milo Center UMC) for the last few songs.   As people took light from the Christ Candle and circled the sanctuary the glow filling the room was breath taking. The love and connection within Branchport UMC is very present.

Thank you to all who supported the Memorial Tree and sent in names for us to honor. The light of our loved ones shines on, not only at this time of year but every day. We embrace their memory and will continue to do the work that they began and strive even more to make a difference in our community and as far as God needs us. As we begin 2018 we move forward with hope in the possibilities that God has for us.

We will begin our next Bible study in a few weeks as we read Faithful: Christmas Thru the Eyes of Joseph by Adam Hamilton. We will meet for 6 weeks on Sundays after church for 1 to 1 and ½ hours. If you would be interested in participating, please contact Pastor Kim (585-857-7962). We would love to have you!

It is hard to believe that the Christmas season has come and gone! We celebrate the birth of the Messiah and before we know it we are embracing His baptism and the start of His Ministry. I pray that all of you hold on tight to the peace and joy of the season. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on Valentine’s Day this year. We are making plans for a Stations of the Cross Display once again this year on Good Friday evening and hope to celebrate Easter on April 1st with full pews!

Keep an eye on the information board outside of church to keep up to date with upcoming events! The weather outside may be chilly but we hope you find your way to worship with us Sunday Mornings at 10:45am.

May the love of God keep all of you warm this season,

Pastor Kim
